So if you were living under a rock for the past 20 hours, the highly anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War” trailer dropped this morning and had social media fanboying out like never before.
Honestly, after a trailer like that, I cannot really blame anyone for the complete insanity that ensued afterwards. This trailer is breathtakingly awesome and left me with goosebumps.
Beginning with the “There was an idea…” monologue from Nick Fury, this trailer is absolutely relentless and shows absolutely everything that fans wanted to see. We see virtually every Marvel character to date (hey Hawkeye, where the hell where you man?!) and each of them is dealing with their own set of unique circumstances.
Tony Stark is contemplating life. Bruce Banner is crashed through the floor of some building. Vision and Wanda Maximoff are falling in love. Thor is watching from afar. Peter Parker is being a kid… That all changes when the biggest, baddest villain to date, Thanos, appears in downtown New York.
I do not want to spoil the trailer for anyone who has not seen it but the shots and scenes afterwards are just phenomenal and look incredible. I absolutely cannot wait for this movie. From the initial trailer it looks as if Marvel has found a way to handle what I was worried might be the film’s biggest hold-up: having so many superheroes in one movie that the plot either gets too convoluted or that some characters get left behind. By the looks of the trailer, it seems as if the Russo brothers have found a way to make 15+ superheroes each get enough screen time.
Additionally, the trailer has hints that there are going to be some dark and rough times ahead for the heroes we all love so much. They do not appear to be on the offensive as they typically are. We see Spiderman being smashed into the ground. We see Vision being tortured. We see a band of heroes running away from what appears to be the army of Mordor.
No one is safe when Thanos comes and I think that is something the trailer did a pretty good job of showing. This film is going to be a fun adventure but it also is going to be darker and more serious than any of the previous MCU films. The stakes are higher and that means the danger is much greater.
AND HOW ABOUT THAT SCORE?! There is honestly nothing better than hearing the Avengers’ theme. It gives me chills every time.
As much as I hate using this word, “Avengers: Infinity War” looks… Epic. May cannot come fast enough.
